John Sebastian Joins Lovin' Spoonful Celebration in Support of Autism Research in Los Angeles
The surviving members of the legendary group, the Lovin’ Spoonful, will be performing at a special benefit show celebrating the music of the Lovin’ Spoonful on February 29, 2020 at 8:00 pm PST at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, CA. The show is presented by the Wild Honey Orchestra as a fundraiser for the Autism Think Tank and does not represent a formal Lovin’ Spoonful reunion. The Alex Theatre located at 215 North Brand Blvd. Glendale, CA 91203 and tickets are available on the Alex Theatre’s website alextheatre.org. Spoonful co-founder, John Sebastian, explains, “I’m delighted to be honored this month by the Wild Honey Orchestra, the musical team that’s doing an autism think tank benefit this year in Glendale, CA. And this year their subject is the Lovin’ Spoonful. Since Steve, Joe, and I agreed to attend, I’ve gotten correspondence about a Lovin’ Spoonful ‘reunion,’ and I want to clarify. Spoonful reunions without Zalman (Zal) Yanovsky are more like get-togethers. Most of the music at the show is played by a great assortment of studios musicians, not always including us. It’ll be a blast but a reunion would be a misnomer.” John Sebastian, Joe Butler and Steve Boone will be performing together for the first time since the Spoonful’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. Artists joining them on stage for this special tribute include: Mickey Dolenz, Susan Cowsill, Marshall Crenshaw, Carnie Wilson and Elliot Easton.
